Cannacurio #73: Manufacturing 2023 Q1 Leaderboard
Manufacturing licenses are the least prone to cyclical swings in terms of issuance. There are currently just over 6,200 manufacturing licenses in the Cannabiz Media License Database at 5,800 facilities. Cannabiz Media categorizes a license as a manufacturer if it fits the following description: License is for the processing (manufacturing) of marijuana-infused products, such as edibles or concentrates, but does not include cultivation or retail sale to customers.

These “census” snapshots, derived from our Cannabiz Business Intelligence platform, show where new licenses are being created. As a result of moratoriums and market pressures, the rate of adding new cultivation licenses is down in most jurisdictions.

Cannacurio #71: Dispensary and Retailer 2023 Q1 Leaderboard
Now that Q1 has wrapped up, we want to share our quarterly round-up of which states issued the most dispensary/retailer licenses. Our 2022 recap showed that 2,750 licenses were issued, and four states accounted for 66% of the newly issued licenses in 2022. The first quarter of 2023 shows Oklahoma responsible for 47% of the 699 new licenses nationwide – despite their license “moratorium”.
