Cannacurio #93: Dispensary and Retailer 2024 Q1 Leaderboard

Now that Q1 has wrapped up we want to share our quarterly round-up of which states issued the most dispensary/retailer licenses. We tallied 333 new dispensary/retailer licenses were issued in the quarter and New Jersey and Michigan each accounted for about 20% of the 333. In Q1 2023 there were 699 licenses issued.

Since starting the Cannacurio series last year, the leaderboard blog posts have garnered a significant amount of interest. We have been crunching and adjusting the numbers to show what happened in 2020 and focused on the total number of active licenses in effect because this view takes into account terminated and non-renewed licenses.

Since our last update in late summer, dispensaries and retailers have continued to enter the marketplace adding 1,422 new licenses since January 1. Those licenses represent a 20% increase from the 6,927 at the beginning of the year.
