After waiting for some late Oklahoma license renewals to settle, we wanted to show the growth in cultivation licenses over the last three years. As we shared throughout 2020, the license growth has primarily occurred in California and Oklahoma. They account for 70% of the active cultivation licenses in the US, up from 67% in 2019 and 51% in 2018.

We last looked at cannabis cultivation licenses in early fall and today’s post is an update on new licenses issued as well as total licenses. In September California and Oklahoma have been responsible for over 89% of the new cultivation licenses.

Since our last update in late summer, dispensaries and retailers have continued to enter the marketplace adding 1,422 new licenses since January 1. Those licenses represent a 20% increase from the 6,927 at the beginning of the year.

Cannabiz Media recently worked with an Arkansas-based intermediary to obtain copies of complaints, violations and fines issued by the Alcoholic Beverage Control Division (ABC). We were furnished with 60 pages of documents that outlined 56 violations committed by 12 of the state’s license holders.
